During the week of June 17th, Princeton Policy Advocacy Clinic students presented their research at the 56th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. The Policy Advocacy Clinic students testified before the UN Human Rights Council making the case for the Council to reauthorize the Expert Mechanism on law enforcement and racial justice (EMLER) and presented their research to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights staff on United States compliance with international human rights standards related to police use of force, bans on racial profiling, drug law policies, no-knock warrants, felony disenfranchisement, national police misconduct registry, and police data collection. The students also presented their research at a side event held on Juneteenth to coincide with the Human Rights Council session, making the case for the Council to continue its focus on law enforcement practices in the United States and globally. The side event was sponsored by the ACLU, Physicians for Human Rights, Mothers Against Police Brutality, International Service for Human Rights and UN Antiracism Coalition.
