Anne Dechter is Senior Program Counsel for the Program in Law and Public Policy (P*Law). Before moving to Princeton in 2023, she was vice president and deputy general counsel of the Center for American Progress, a thinktank in Washington, D.C. There she provided counsel on tax, election, and media law, among other areas. She previously served as a deputy associate counsel in the Obama White House, where she vetted candidates for presidential appointments and nominations. She also spent three years as a litigator in the D.C. office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, and has worked as a writer and editor at various publications, including The Chronicle of Philanthropy. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University (Writing Seminars; Sociology) and a J.D. from Georgetown University.
